New Pokemon Legends: Arceus trailer serves up a gameplay deep dive
Pokemon Legends: Arceus was launched for the Nintendo Switch in a few weeks, and it was safe to say that it would shake the Pokemon formula in a significant way. While the central premise will still spin around to meet and catch Pokemon to fill your Pokedex, the way you will do it in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is much different from the previous game in the series. Today, Nintendo and Game Freak publish a long gameplay preview video for Pokemon Legends: Arceus which takes us through some core gameplay concepts.
When we say “long,” we are also serious. The whole video came in more than 13 minutes, and it included many reasons at that time. In the end, we went with feelings like Pokemon Legends: Arceus took a few pages of the Monster Hunter book, which was not always a bad thing considering how pleasant the matches were.
Instead of traveling from the city to the city before finally challenging the Pokemon League for the opportunity to become a champion of Pokemon – the central gameplay loop of most main Pokemon games – Pokemon Legends: Arceus will assign players by going out in the field and documenting different species. Pokemon they found there.
Because the preview of gameplay shows us, players will interact with wild Pokemon and the environment around them directly. Players can gather resources to make items, whether it is a perfect pokeballs or healing items for themselves and their Pokemon. Meeting Wild Pokemon does not always end up with Pokemon battles, too. For example, players can catch wild Pokemon by throwing berries to distract him, then throw Pokeball and catch him through what is called “counterattack.”
Of course, if the wild Pokemon doesn’t give up, you can start the battle of Pokemon to weaken it. However, you must be careful when you use wild Pokemon because they can directly damage the player, and take too much damage to send you back to the Hub game – Jubilife Village – while taking some items that you find as a penalty.
The trailer also goes into how players will fill in Pokedex and how they will continue the game through requests and mission. The trailer explains that demand is a small task that helps the villagers of Jubilife, while the mission is a larger search that advances the story. The structure of the mission, along with an expedition-style gameplay and the fact that the player departed from the city center, all reminiscent of the way the game Monster Hunter played.
In the last part of the gameplay trailer, we can see how basic requests might play. After that, we studied the specification of Battling Pokemon and even saw the customization of the player. Finally, the trailer ended by looking at a meeting with the noble Pokemon, which involves trying to calm him by throwing Balsm on him while also avoiding his attack.
If there is one complaint of Pokemon fans about modern games, it is a formula that has grown stagnant and boring, so it’s interesting to see if Pokemon legend: Arceus shook everything in the right way for players who might grow tired with the series. We will soon find out, because Pokemon’s legends: Arceus is scheduled to be launched for the Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2022.
